NARC Ethics Policy

The Narcissistic Abuse Recovery Center (NARC)  Ethics Policy
Last updated: January 10, 2026

At NARC, we take trust seriously. This policy explains the standards we follow to protect client safety, dignity, and quality of care.

Our commitments

We commit to:

  • Treat every client with respect, professionalism, and compassion
  • Practice within our scope of training, licensure, and competence
  • Use evidence informed, trauma responsive approaches
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries in all clinical relationships
  • Provide clear informed consent, including fees and policies, before treatment begins

Confidentiality and privacy
We protect your privacy and follow applicable confidentiality laws, including HIPAA when it applies.
Confidentiality has limits in certain situations, including:

  • If there is imminent risk of harm to self or others
  • If we suspect abuse or neglect of a child, elder, or dependent adult
  • If we are legally required to respond to a valid court order or subpoena
  • If you request release of information in writing

We will discuss these limits in informed consent and answer your questions.

Boundaries and professional relationships
Therapy works best when it is clear and contained. We maintain ethical boundaries, including:

  • No dual relationships that could create conflicts of interest (for example: close friendships, business relationships, or treatment of close family members when it creates risk)
  • No harassment, intimidation, or discrimination
  • Clear policies around messaging, scheduling, cancellations, and after-hours contact

Respectful communication
We welcome questions, feedback, and concerns. We also maintain a respectful environment for everyone.

We will not tolerate:

  • Hate speech, harassment, threats, or abusive behavior toward staff or clinicians
  • Pressure to violate laws, ethics, or professional standards

Clinical integrity and referrals
Sometimes the most ethical care is a referral. We may refer out if:

  • Your needs are outside our scope or level of care
  • A different specialty would better support you
  • Another provider is needed for medical, psychiatric, or legal matters

No guarantees
Therapy is powerful, but it is not a product with guaranteed outcomes. We will never promise a specific result, and we will be transparent about what we can and cannot do.

Crisis and emergency support
NARC is not an emergency service. If you are in immediate danger or need urgent help:

  • Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room
  • In the U.S., you can call or text 988 (Suicide and Crisis Lifeline)
